There is a folklore about amethyst rings that mentioned something about a drunken by the name of Dionysus who was pursuing a maiden called Amethystos. She refused his love of course and prayed to the gods so that she can remain chaste, meaning not having sex with anyone else other than the one you’re married to.

The goddess Artemis granted her wish and transform her into a white stone. Dionysus was moved and humbled by Amethystos’s desire so he poured some purple wine over the stone and dying the crystals purple.
