If you go to the jeweller store and ask for a sterling ring, they will usually recommend that you have the 925 silver. If you take a look at the sterling rings you will find that most of them are hallmarked as 925. What exactly is 925 then?


Well, silver is beautiful piece of metal that looks just like white gold. So why not 100 percent pure silver then? The reason for this is simple. Pure silver is very soft and it will even soften at room temperature. Without some sort of alloy, it won't be useful at all in jewellery.

In order to make silver stronger and last longer, other metals need to be added. By using an alloy of 92.5 percent of pure silver with 7.5 percent of copper, the whole problem is solved. With 925 silver, sterling ring can be created and the silver will be resistant to scratching and won't get soften at room temperature.


Sterling ring, should you buy one?


Sterling ring is a great alternative to white gold ring. In fact, since both of them look almost alike, nobody will know the difference. If you would like to save money and enjoy more luxury then sterling ring is for you. If you would like to show off a ring that is more expensive, valuable and white, then you should buy a platinum diamond ring.
