When searching for antique engagement rings, you want to pay attention to carat. Carat is the unit of weight by which diamonds are measured. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams and a carat is divided into 100 segments called points. The most common and popular stone for engagement rings is the diamond.
The Art Of Choosing An Antique Engagement Ring

The quality of an antique engagement ring is very important. A laser drilled diamond may look beautiful but in reality an untreated stone is more valuable. This is because an untreated diamond of the same quality is quite rare and therefore worth more money.
So in order to ensure that the diamond you’re buying is genuine, be sure to get the certificate issued by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or another equally reputed independent lab for your antique engagement ring. Some certificates will even include an estimated replacement value of the stone for insurance purposes.
Be sure to make sure that the certificate also have a detailed sketch of the diamond with the stone’s dimension, weight, and any treatments the stone may have and sometimes the origin of the stone.
